StageFree Season 2 Announcement

StageFree 2.1: Music from Latin America celebrates music from and inspired by Central and South America, including the Caribbean. This house concert will feature a bandoneon demonstration, songs for tenor and piano, solo pieces for piano and violin, and a premiere for bandoneon, tenor, violin, and piano by Dominic Ellis. September 22, 2018 | 7PM | Gala House Concert, DC

StageFree 2.2: Witches, Bitches, & Brews. A reworking of the season 1 hit "Witches, Bitches, & Boys", this concert featuring Katherine Fili at B Chord Brewery will retain many of the favorites from the original performance while introducing some of the best known drinking songs in operatic history. October 13, 2018 | 4PM | B Chord Brewery, VA

StageFree 2.3: Martin Jones. Renowned British pianist Martin Jones brings his American Piano Music Project to the DC region. The first stop on his East Coast tour, Martin presents a program of music from his most recent iteration of the Project blended with traditional music from the piano repertoire. November 5, 2018 | 7PM | John Kendall Recital Hall at Potter Violins, MD

StageFree MasterClass: StageFree Music partners with the University of Maryland School of Music Composers' Colloquium to present Martin Jones in a master-class on creating new music for the piano. StageFree 2.4: Bytes and Booze is a concert of rarely heard music for computer (fixed media) and computer-processed live sound, largely by DC area composers. This concert will take place at the beautiful Studio Gallery in Dupont Circle, the longest running artist-owned gallery in DC. This event will be a special opportunity in Washington's cultural scene to experience a combination of aural and visual art representing our region. February 22, 2019 | 7PM | Studio Gallery, DC

StageFree 2.5: Call for Scores. Local music drawn from our 2018 Call for Scores. StageFree partners with Dupont Underground to present a thrilling concert of music written exclusively by composers living in the Washington region. Music by Dawn Avery, Armando Bayolo, Michael Bratt, Ashi Day, Joshua Fishbein, Bradley Green, Andy Herring, Stephen Lilly, Christopher Newman, Robert Pound, Carrie, Rose, and Ross Wixon. May 24, 2019 | 8PM | Dupont Underground, DC

2018 Call for Scores

StageFree is pleased to announce a call for scores from composers residing in the National Capital Region. Submissions will be reviewed by members of StageFree’s leadership team, and selected pieces will be featured on a concert scheduled for June 2019.


The call is open to composers of any age or nationality who reside within one-hundred miles of the District of Columbia, USA. Composers affiliated with a college or university within the same radius are also eligible.


StageFree is a chamber music collective whose roster varies by performance. Submissions are welcome for any instrumentation, with or without electronics, including solo fixed media. Pieces requiring five players or fewer are preferred, especially those without piano.

Fee and submission limit

There is no submission fee. Each composer may submit up to three pieces which have been written in the last 10 years.


Please email a PDF of your score, biography, and city of residence/institutional affiliation to Recordings (including MIDI) are welcome but not required. If the composition includes a text copyrighted by someone other than the composer, please include documentation of permission to use that text.


All submissions must be received by 11:59pm EDT on June 15, 2018.

Reviewing and Results

Submissions will be reviewed by StageFree’s leadership board: April Angilletta, Michael Cantor Ceurvorst, Michael Fili, and Charles Perryman. Selected compositions will be featured on the final program of StageFree’s 2018-2019 season, which will be announced in August 2018. Featured composers will be notified by email before the season announcement. Scores not selected for performance this season will remain under consideration for future use.

NB. This Call for Scores does not represent a composition competition. There is no monitory prize, and there is no obligation that this performance represents a premiere. Factors contributing selection will include practical considerations such as instrumentation, length, and venue restrictions. Our goal for this Call is to provide a performance outlet for Washington area composers.
