StageFree 2.4: Bytes and Brushes

Music for computer processed instruments and fixed media paired with exciting local visual art. David Le, flute, plays Poison Mushroom by Day Fujikura, Shari Feldman, soprano, sings Adiantum Capillus-Ventris I by Chaya Czernowin, and StageFree vet Patti Wang, violin, returns for another performance of local composer Armando Bayolo’s Tusch. Local composers Ashi Day and Chris Newman share fixed media pieces, and there will be premieres by Duncan Boatright, Bradley Green, and Chuck Perryman. Local artists exhibiting at Studio Gallery during 2.4 are Jean Jinho Kim, Pam Frederick, Nicole Fossi, and J. Herbert.

Acclaimed British pianist Martin Jones brings the 4th installment of his PnOVA American Piano Music Series to Washington, DC. This excellent program includes music by Ingrid Arauco (Pennsylvania), Kent Holiday (Virginia), Timothy Melbinger (Pennsylvania), and Jonathan Newmark (Virginia), in addition to more familiar music from the repertoire.

Katherine Brandt returns to sing favorite arias for mezzo-soprano, this time joined by Ross Tamaccio and StageFree veterans Katie Baughman and David Miranda for classic opera drinking songs.
Spend the day in Virginia Wine Country, and finish up tasting excellent beer and listening to the most casual performance of opera you can imagine!

Heyni Solera gives a lecture/performance on the bandoneon, David Miranda sings Central American art songs, Sam Post plays his own Tango!, Patti Wang plays Armando Bayolo's Tusch, and StageFree premieres a new work for bandoneon, tenor, violin, and piano by Dominic Ellis.

The mezzo-soprano's lament: always the sorceress, never the heroine; always the bitch, never the ingénue; always a boy.... Featuring mezzo-soprano Katherine Brandt and pianist Thomas Hunter, this recital explores the roles into which mezzos have been typecast throughout opera history. The music will include classic hits and arias from lesser known works. Also featured will be arias from DC based opera composers Michael Oberhauser and Matthew Arling Samson.
